Spell Description

An invisible barrier of magical force appears and protects you. Until the start of your next turn, you have a +5 bonus to AC, including against the triggering attack, and you take no damage from magic missile.

Is Shield Good?

Overall Rating: Blue. This means that shield is a great spell and you should strongly consider this spell for your character.

Overall Notes: This is a great spell to have in your pocket when you're stuck in a sticky situation. Obviously, the most common use for this spell is to cast this spell when you get hit by an attack, and the +5 boost to your AC will cause the attack to miss. If you have a particularly low AC, you might find this spell sits on the sidelines more often than not at higher levels when enemies get higher attack bonuses.

Class Specific Ratings for Shield

Eldritch Knight fighter: This is likely one of the best spells in your repertoire. It doesn’t require any INT to be able to cast and is a great use of reactions.

Arcane Trickster rogue: While this can prevent you getting hit, it requires your precious spell slots. Usually Uncanny Dodge will be good enough to keep your Arcane Trickster standing.
