What Is the Boon of Combat Prowess Feat in 5e?

This Epic Boon feat grants you an unparalleled ability to turn a miss into a hit, ensuring your attacks land when they matter most. Combine that with a boost to any ability score of your choice, and this boon is a powerhouse for high-level martial characters.
Combat in high-level D&D often comes down to big hits and devastating abilities, so having a guaranteed way to connect with a strike can mean the difference between victory and defeat. Whether you’re a greatsword-swinging Fighter, a spell-sniping Warlock, or a Paladin looking to land that Divine Smite, this feat delivers reliability when you need it most.
How Does Boon of Combat Prowess Work?
Boon of Combat Prowess is one of the Epic Boons found in the 2024 Player’s Handbook. Unlike regular feats, Epic Boons are only available to characters who reach level 19, making them a capstone reward for the most powerful adventurers.
When you take the Boon of Combat Prowess, you gain the following benefits:
- Ability Score Increase: Increase one ability score of your choice by 1, to a maximum of 30. The maximum of 30 is (typically) impossible to hit if you’ll just be playing to level 20. Instead, it’s meant to be a reward for gaining levels beyond level 20 as described on page 46 of the 2024 Player’s Handbook.
- Peerless Aim: When you miss with an attack roll, you can turn that miss into a hit. This feature refreshes at the start of your next turn, making it a consistent way to ensure you hit at least once per turn. This is going to provide the most benefit for characters with less attacks but who can output burst damage, like Paladins and their Divine Smites or Rogues and their Sneak Attacks, but turning a miss into a hit is always going to feel good. Keep in mind that this also applies to spell attack rolls, so it works incredibly well with casters who have a lot of these in their repertoire.
How to Get the Boon of Combat Prowess Feat
Any class can pick up the Boon of Combat Prowess feat when they reach level 19 and gain the Epic Boon class feature.

The Boon of Combat Prowess helps eliminate the randomness of attack rolls at least once per round, ensuring that your damage remains more consistent and helping your crucial abilities land.
At level 20, combat is often swingy and missing your attacks can be the difference between downing an enemy and them surviving long enough to down your healer. A missed attack, especially one that’s been buffed by resources like Paladin’s smite spell, can be devastating. This boon guarantees that at least one of those hits per round, which will give you the confidence to spend those extra resources.
Don’t Sleep on This Feat as a Caster
This feat pairs incredibly well with spells that involve spell attacks, such as Blade of Disaster, Crown of Stars, or Mordenkainen’s Sword. It can also be useful if you have certain low-level staples that you like to upcast, like Guiding Bolt or Vampiric Touch.
Which 5e Classes Make the Most of Boon of Combat Prowess?
The color code below has been implemented to help you identify, at a glance, how good the Boon of Combat Prowess 5e feat is for a specific class/subclass.
- Red: Weak, unlikely to contribute to your build
- Orange: Situationally good, but below average
- Green: A solid choice
- Blue: A great option worth considering
- Sky Blue: One of the best choices for optimization
Artificer: Artificers who rely on spell or weapon attacks, like the Armorer or Battle Smith, will appreciate the guaranteed hit, especially for key abilities like Arcane Jolt.
Barbarian: One of the best Epic Boon options for a Barbarian. Since Barbarians get multiple attacks per turn and already have high damage output, ensuring that one of those attacks always lands is always welcome.
Bard: Most Bards won’t benefit from this feat because the majority of their spells invoke saving throws. Unless they use weapons regularly, which is rare, this is a pass.
Cleric: Surprisingly, Clerics will quite enjoy this feat, especially if they use Guiding Bolt, Spiritual Weapon, or another spell attack-based feat.
Druid: If you’re playing a melee-focused Druid (like Circle of the Moon), this can help land your Wild Shape attacks. Otherwise, Druids don't have enough potent spell attack options for this to make sense.
Fighter: This is a top-tier feat for Fighters. While they don't have many ways to output burst damage on their strikes, hitting more consistently is always beneficial.
Monk: Monks make multiple attacks per round, so ensuring that at least one lands is a solid benefit, especially seeing as you'll want to try to land Stunning Strike on at least one of your attacks.
Paladin: Absolute the best pick for a Paladin. They only get two attacks per turn and rely on landing attacks for their Divine Smites, so they want to ensure at least one attack lands. Also, this can help them land attacks imbued with other smite spells that don't proc on hit, like Banishing Smite.
Ranger: Rangers make multiple attacks per round, so ensuring that at least one lands is a solid benefit, especially for attacks imbued with spells like Steel Wind Strike or Ensnaring Strike.
Rogue: Ensuring that your Sneak Attack lands is a massive boost for any Rogue. Keep in mind you'll still have to find a way to trigger your Sneak Attacks, but at least the hit is guaranteed.
Sorcerer: Sorcerers get access to a ton of good damage dealing, attack roll-based spells, making this a good pick up for a blaster casters.
Warlock: Warlocks make a ton of spell attacks with their invocation-infused cantrips, so this is a solid pick to ensure they hit at least once per round. Keep in mind it's more effective if your Warlock has stacked into Firebolt, which involves one attack roll, than Eldritch Blast, which involves four attack rolls.
Wizard: Wizards get access to a ton of good damage dealing, attack roll-based spells, making this a good pick up for a blaster casters.
